July 14, 2010 -- day flows into night flows into day...

July 14, 2010. 8:16 p.m. PST. ISO 100. Shutter 1/30. Aperture f/5.3. No flash, setting sun.

Dawn breaks, and the period of time that we see the sunshine is called day, and then the sun sets. The period of darkness, when most people sleep, is called night. And another day follows the night, and another night follows the day, setting up a rhythm… day, night, day, night. To this rhythm we set the music of our lives. Sometimes our music is sad, and sometimes happy. Sometimes angry, sometimes compassionate. The music in us follows the flow of the day, night, day, night, rhythm.

We move to the music of our lives set to the steady rhythm of night and day. The rhythm gives us a sense of time. The most accepted form of time is the idea that it linear… that our lives follow a sequential pattern. This one dimensional concept of time time… spacetime… was developed within the last century. Previous to this, many people subscribed to the idea that time was a separate dimension unto itself.. the fourth dimension (a tesseract?)

So according to physicists, time is one-dimensional, linear, and sequential. Time always moves forward, never back. (although the idea of time-travel comes to mind, please remember that if time is linear, and you are traveling, time is not moving… you are!)

Waking up this morning… swimming, household duties… and other items occurred. By the end of the evening, I could safely say, that if we were speaking in terms of linear time, earlier the day had begun well, but gone downhill from there.

But here’s the beauty of it… time is moving forward. History is in the past. Whatever you have done wrong you can learn from and apply it to the future of the music of your life.

And as the rhythm of day and night steadily tick, time moves on, and the future is now. xo

  1. Cool photo. And good words, too.

This is only kind of on the subject, but did you know that the only way physicists have been able to propose a unified theory is by taking time out of the equation? Astrophysics and particle physics only work with each other if we decide that time is not a factor/doesn’t exist.

That being said, there is no going back. Now is all we have. I wish I was better at doing something with it some days.

    • David, I soo love that you often think like I do. We are chronic overthinkers, maybe?
Thank you for adding info.. I love this stuff! And thank you always for your kind words!

  2. I love this beach pic, Torie! I like what you’re saying about time. The past is past. The future is not promised. All we have is the present moment.
