July 27, 2010 --- patience

July 27, 2010. 5:04pm PST. ISO 100. Shutter 1/250. Aperture f/10. Manual setting today, though the focusing may revert back to auto-focus in the future due to my poor eyesight.

tanka #3

I sit serenely
in the warmth of the sunshine

focusing patience
an explorer starts to search
for treasure that awaits him

*notes on tanka. Tanka poems have been popular in Japan for 1300 years. Tanka consists of 5 lines, 31 syllables, in a pattern of 5-7-5-7-7.
The third line of a tanka can be a pivotal line. It often forms the end of a complete thought for the first three lines, and begins another complete thought for the final lines.

  2. Very provacative.

  3. The picture looks like a pin-up beach party girl out of those 1950s movies! šŸ™‚

    • LOL! Oakley, you should have seen the one I rejected! Talk about pin-up-y! xo

  4. Now I understand the ‘up and down the stairs’ reference. Especially working in full manual. The shot turned out great! The diminishing lines of the stair focuses the attention upward, toward the subject- excellent composition!
I’m ashamed to admit that I wasn’t familiar with Tanka. I like the concept. Almost like two Haiku sharing a pivotal line. Yours is a superb example, Torie.

  5. Love the spartan beauty of this…
