October 30, 2010 -- Nana

October 30, 2010. 1:58pm PST. ISO 100. Shutter 1.3.  Aperture f/18.0. Manual exposure, no flash.

Early afternoon, I sit here sewing a last-minute costume for Jessica. She’s headed off to a Halloween party at church this evening…. the decision to go made only yesterday. After a quick trip to the fabric store last night with Molly, she came up with a cute design. How to hold it together, though?
Ask mom, of course.
Any needlework abilities I credit to my mother and my maternal grandmother.–My Nana. I sit here, stitching away, somewhat blindly and with a great deal of faith, hoping that this will turn out. Next to me, my Nana’s sewing box. It was only recently that I could open and touch the contents without a feeling of great sadness and loss. Now, opening it, I feel the joy of my Nana and her sewing once again.
My Nana, one of the intrepid Kielley girls from Duluth, MN. I’m hoping to channel her abilities into this costume today!

  1. Clever hands are definitely genetic.

  2. Great shot of mom in action. I’ve noticed that the last few posts have featured your hands. I like it. You have very expressive hands, Torie.

  3. You don’t look sick at all. 😉

  4. side note: Just got a text from J. -she says the costume turned out pretty well, and it held together. (even better)
    *sigh of relief!
